Frequently asked questions
Faxing with Codex
Run the two commands in Manual setup to add DearFax’s hosted MCP server and start the OAuth login. Sign in in the browser window that opens and approve access. Then ask Codex to list your DearFax workspaces and choose the one to use. Keep tool approvals enabled.
A local file path is not enough for DearFax’s hosted server to retrieve the document. The file needs a supported upload route or a direct HTTPS download link. Ask Codex to prepare the document for DearFax, then review the recipient and fax details before approving the send.
Codex can help prepare drafts and check delivery through DearFax’s MCP tools. Sending still requires the fax review and explicit confirmation. Keep that approval step in your workflow; the connection is not permission to send every document Codex encounters.
Ask Codex to check the fax’s status or retrieve its delivery receipt. A queued fax has not been delivered yet. DearFax reports the current state so you can distinguish a draft, an active transmission, a delivered fax, and a failed attempt.
No. Codex uses your workspace’s existing sending eligibility and page allowance. MCP tools cannot add paid capacity or change your subscription. Workspace admins can request a fax number only when the workspace already has an available number slot.
